The Thrashers are still hoping to be able to work out a contract extension with Ilya Kovalchuk. The two sides have opened up lines of communication, but Atlanta's ownership has yet to weigh in on the financial aspects of such a deal. Kovalchuk has 16 goals and 10 assists this season.
